Farmhouse Market Iowa

About Us

The West Place is a family farm that was the product of hard work and the progressive vision of my father-in-law, Verle, and his parents Dale & Dorothy McGraw. This farm was built to house McGraw Hampshire hogs and was home to over 125 production sales in that fabulous sale barn! McGraw Farms specialized in Hampshire and Yorkshire breeding stock and Belgian draft horses. In fact, our storefront is still displaying the family business name, albeit a little faded, it is something we are proud of, and the first thing you see before entering our shop. We may not be selling hogs or draft horses anymore, but we do find inspiration in the entrepreneurial spirit of this farm and want to keep the spirit alive. Our dream and vision for this farm might be a little different than what Verle and Dale had envisioned, but we hope you too can feel how special this place is when you visit.

We opened our storefront in July 2020 in the building that served as the headquarters for the hog sales. We converted this space into a space where we offer home + garden products, seasonal products from our garden, flowers from local flower farmers and more. One of the things I love most about opening this store, is getting to hear stories from our patrons of their time being on this farm in the sixties, seventies, and eighties. I love envisioning this place in its prime, and we hope to breathe a little of that excitement back into the farm a little at a time.
